Straus Center
The Straus Center has been developed to support people with memory loss and their family caregivers in Hancock County. Half and full-day programs are offered and members will be encouraged to take part in activities based on individual interest and ability. Family members are encouraged to use the time for relaxation, fitness or to meet other responsibilities.
Daily happenings will occur indoors as well as outdoors in our secure garden area with staff, volunteers and other Straus Center members. Weekly outings will also be scheduled, as volunteer support allows.
Each member will participate in daily routines which are comfortably predictable, but based on individual skill and interests. Medical staff at the Community Health Center will assist in assessing each members unique strengths and deficits, working with the Director of Adult Services to develop individualized care plans to ensure greatest enjoyment and therapeutic levels of stimulation.
Daily activities include:
- Play board games or do puzzles
- Listen to music & sing
- Paint pictures
- Gardening
- Cook (& eat!)
- Listen to stories...and share stories of your own!
- Watch a movie
- Go for walks and other outings
